Galway Stands Tall Again

Galway, Ireland, the shining European port of call in the 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race that was called “the most enjoyable stopover” by some sailors, will host the finale of the 2011-2012 edition of the race, VOR CEO Knut Frostad announced this morning.

Estimated to bring in €55.8m ($76m USD) to the local economy*, the race will not only be a publicity booster for Ireland’s West Coast, but will also be a significant stimulus to the economy.

Racing Winds has also made (very tentative) plans to travel to Galway for the stopover in 2012.
