Photo Breakdown: The Volvo Ocean Race’s Gorgeous New Website

The Volvo Ocean Race has launched a new website ahead of the October 29 start of the 2011-2012 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. Admittedly, it’s quite spectacular

The Homepage

At the homepage, you’re greeted with an interface thats more user-friendly than the previous one, and presents information in a less cluttered way. Top stories are shown in a matrix in the center of the page, making it easy to find a current news article quickly. Also shown down the sidebar are links to various social services, as well as featured destinations around the site.

News Articles & Featured Stories

Not a whole lot has changed here, but we do appreciate the mini-photomatrix embedded inline in the article with relevant pictures and a quote below. Also, inline videos now have the capability to be shown in the header of the story page.

Navigation and Browsing

Here’s where a lot has changed. Scrolling over individual items at the top navigation bar will reveal a whole matrix of further options within that category.

The new Volvo Ocean Race website is a huge step in the right direction for the world’s flagship offshore ocean race. Fans and media officials alike will enjoy accessing the new website to follow the Race when it begins in October.
