Olivia Constants: A Celebration of Life at Opening Regatta

Today we had our first regatta of the fall high school season at Severn Sailing Association, in Eastport, Annapolis, Maryland. As we sailed hard and fast through occasionally shifty breeze, each one of us wore with pride an Olivia Constants bracelet. Everyone.

While the regatta carried on as it normally would have, there was something in the back of everyone’s mind, whether it was spoken of or not: Olivia Constants. It is hard to believe that it has been nearly three months since an inconceivable tragedy ended Olivia’s life so abruptly on a warm June day. We hosted a cookout for her foundation today, and as we feasted on food between rotations, it was hard for me to ignore the fact that Olivia wasn’t there.

It’s not beneficial to dwell on the past as we move into the future, but Olivia certainly hasn’t been forgotten at Severn Sailing Association, at Annapolis area regattas, or throughout the country. On the contrary; we’re all sailing for Olivia.

  1. It was a fabulous day for sailors, coaches and families! Olivia’s spirit continues to shine on all who knew her and especially her teammates. The cookout was a huge success, with round 2 this afternoon following races at AYC. Final count on the donation is forthcoming… Thanks to all who showed their support!
