[VIDEO] A Tale of Two Races

It’s starting to look like a tale of two races as the fleet is split, three boats to the east and three boats to the west. The western boats, Telefonica, CAMPER, and Team Sanya, will be traveling through the middle of the Solomon Islands, while leg leader Groupama, PUMA, and Abu Dhabi will be steering well-clear. Telefonica and CAMPER are currently being threatened by the massive wind shadow cast by an active volcano on one of the islands.

PUMA has been the dark horse in the leg, now in 2nd place after spending several days at the bottom of the scoreboard. Their strange easterly play earlier in the week has not been in vain, as they’ve not only catapulted themselves 2nd, but are starting to feel the southeasterly trade winds that they so longed for.

With 2000nm left until Auckland, it’s still anyone’s game, especially once the entire fleet feels the effects of the beautiful trade breezes.
