When Racing Winds Media was started in 2009, we created Winds in the World along with it. The purpose of Winds in the World is to fundraise for movements that we feel are inline with the media work we do. In 2010, our first partnership came to fruition after we partnered with Eco-Libris to plant a tree in Guatemala for each copy of my novella, Racing Winds, that was sold.
Today is the day that Winds in the World comes out of a dormancy that has been too long. We are starting the Winds in the World :: Water for All campaign. Water for All is a fundraising effort for charity: water, a New York-based charity which makes clean drinking water available for the one billion people who don’t have access to clean water.
One billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water. That is nearly the entire population of China. One seventh of our world’s people spend their days hiking hours to mud puddles in the ground, often shared with animals and who knows what else, to collect dirty, diseased water that they then drink.
It takes just $20 to make clean drinking water available for one person. The Water for All campaign aims to raise $1000 in hopes of allowing 50 people to finally be able to drink clean water. We’ve selected charity: water as the benefactor for this fundraising effort. Charity: water, started as the result of a simple birthday party, has been the leader in water drilling and access. Over the past five years, charity: water has helped two million people in 19 countries get access to clean water.
What’s more, 100% of your donation goes directly to a water project. Charity: water uses 100% of donations to fund water projects; salaries and overhead costs are paid by private donors. So if you donate $20, $20 goes to a water project. There’s nothing taken off the top. That’s a promise.
Why do we do this? When I started Racing Winds, I had no idea where things would go. For a long time, Racing Winds Media has set out to not only be different, but also to make a difference. The world is a big place, and we’ve seen that. The people in Ethiopia or India or Honduras are not lesser people than we are. They deserve to have water. They deserve an education. They deserve a chance like the rest of us have had. While raising $1000 to help 50 people may be a small ripple in a big ocean, it’s start. And with this start, we hope that you’ll become inspired to do more. Inspiration is power. Power is change.
You don’t have to change the world. But for $20, you can change a person’s life.
A donation of any amount is gratefully accepted. The campaign closes June 16th. Donors will receive a Racing Winds bookmark pack (more information to come).
