[VIDEO] Homestretch for Two Remaining Boats

The battle between first-place PUMA Ocean Racing and second-place Team Telefonica has only ramped up in the last twenty-four hours. With just 41 nm left until the finish line in Itajai, PUMA only led Telefonica by 0.7nm. Both are moving at 10.5 knots.

Telefonica is the dark horse of this battle. Originally, the fight for first seemed to be between Groupama and PUMA, as Telefonica, like the rest of the fleet, had stopped off for repairs. Telefonica, however, made quick work of their time onshore and were off again about twelve hours after reaching land. The race was thrown for a loop when leader Groupama 4 suffered a broken mast, leaving PUMA alone at the top with Telefonica chasing them down.

It looks like it’ll be a photo finish into Itajai as the two top teams scrap for the lead position. Telefonica is the overall race leader, with 122 points. PUMA currently resides in fourth place with 83 points.
