Beaches, Boats, and Bicentennial Park: Volvo Ocean Race in Miami

If you’re not in Miami this weekend, you’re missing out on one of the most spectacular sailing events on the face of the planet. The Volvo Ocean Race, regarded as the Everest of sailing, has come to Miami. But this weekend, the boats will depart on leg 7 bound for Lisbon, Portugal. The competition is fierce, and July will see this year’s edition draw to an end.

So this weekend, the Volvo Ocean Race is going all out in Miami. There will be tons of activities in the village this weekend, just in case watching the boats isn’t enough. There will be free drinks and free admission all weekend. Here’s a schedule of events:

Friday, May 18

  • 2pm – 5pmBeach volleyball clinic
  • 5pm – 8pm Happy hour
  • 7pm Miami Marlins Dancers

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You can check out a full schedule of events here at the Volvo Ocean Race Miami.  The race will be in town until about midday on Sunday, and then the boats depart for Portugal, and the race village will close at 6:00 that night.
