It was a banner day for newly appointed race leader Groupama, with Franck Cammas’ team taking the top spot in Lisbon’s Oeiras In-Port Race today, and earning themselves six points. And surprisingly, it was again Telefonica who suffered, this time through a penalty turn after the start and a broken masthead halyard that saw their spinnaker doused into Portugal’s River Tagus. Despite valiant efforts from all teams, the leaderboard still remains an indecisive one. With two offshore legs and two in-port races left to go, and just 23 points separating fourth place CAMPER from first place Groupama, no boat can afford to rest on their laurels quite yet.
It’s sure to be an exhilarating start tomorrow, as this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race draws ever closer to a close. Folks, it’s going to be a fight to the finish.
