Weather applications are undoubtedly a vital part of our daily lives. They tell us what to expect when traveling, how to dress for daily comings and goings, and whether or not to throw the umbrella in the back of the car.

The only problem is that all weather apps currently available are basically advertisements that display weather on the side. As design junkies, we believe they’re not well laid out and visually unappealing. So we set out in search of a better weather app: one that displays vital information in a well-designed, beautiful layout. Our findings may surprise you, and they might even convince you to kick that nasty incumbent weather app to the curb.

Our series will be laid out in four parts:

1. Introduction (this part), introducing our search

2. The Status Quo, The Weather Channel, AccuWeather, iPhone native weather app

3. The Challengers, Haze, Yahoo! Weather

4. In Conclusion, profiling our findings

We’ll kick off with part two, The Status Quo, in a few weeks.
