The media has more or less run rampant with this story, and there are multiple outlets reporting information that hasn’t been confirmed by Artemis. In fact, Artemis Racing has not released any information with regards to the incident other than it occurred. Yesterday, helmsman Nathan Outteridge was forced to issue a statement disputing information published by multiple outlets, attributed to his father.

Again, let us repeat, Artemis has not released any information as to the cause or events surrounding the accident. Anything read up to this point is pure speculation.

Artemis chairman Torbjörn Törnqvist issued a statement expressing his condolences to Andrew’s family.

While sailing on the San Francisco Bay today, one of Artemis Racing’s AC72s capsized, trapping strategist Andrew Simpson under the boat. Despite attempts to revive him, doctors were unsuccessful, and he passed away onshore.

While Artemis has confirmed the incident, details are still spotty, and we will update this post as more information becomes available. Follow @racingwinds on Twitter for updates.
