Ethics: Our Guiding Principles
Our promises to readers
As journalists, it our job to provide you, the readers, with unbiased content that is written objectively, especially in the case of product reviews.
Product and service reviews
While creating a successful blog enables us to review or experience certain products or services at no charge, our objectivity is what establishes us as a credible source. Experiencing such products or services is solely for the purpose of creating an objective, fair review that can hopefully help future consumers make informed decisions about purchasing a product or service. We pledge to follow this set of guidelines while reviewing products or services:
- Products and/or services that have been provided to Racing Winds Media, the Racing Winds Blog, or Taylor Michie for review purposes will be disclosed in the post, usually at the end.
- Product and/or service reviews are completely objective. A product or service is never given a favorable review simply for the purpose of pleasing the donor. It’s told like it is, and the opinions expressed are completely those of the reviewer(s).
- Product and/or service reviews will only be conducted if the donor is aware of and accepting of these guidelines. All donors of products and/or services are informed of the ethical rules which the Racing Winds Blog is committed to follow, described above.
A note on pricing: Products that have been provided to us for review purposes are hard to value. We see it as our job to assess the quality of the product, so that you, the reader, can assess a value based on your own preferences. We will not attempt to justify worth unless we have purchased the product or service ourselves and can accurately judge value.
A note on event invitations and press passes: Press passes are not considered a donated product and/or service. Press passes are provided to accredited members of the media for free in order to facilitate reporting. While they are accepted in the media industry as a pass to provide objectionable reporting, press events often have delicious free food, live entertainment, and, usually, good company.
We are aware of advertisements that appear on some posts, usually at the end. Unfortunately, these ads are imposed on posts by WordPress.com, the host of this blog. We do not choose to post advertisements on the blog. Advertising on the blog is handled completely by WordPress, and Racing Winds Media cannot take responsibility for the nature of advertisements which appear on the Blog.
We do not gain financially or otherwise from the placement of ads, and don’t support the placement of ads on our posts. If you find an ad that is offensive or otherwise objectionable, please contact us using the info on our contact page. Alternatively, you can contact WordPress Support.
Please note: Press passes are not considered a donated product and/or service. Press passes are provided to accredited members of the media for free in order to facilitate reporting. While they are accepted in the media industry as a pass to provide objectionable reporting, Racing Winds correspondents with press access follow the same ethical guidelines as presented above.
